Newer Giraffe Sketches

It's been a busy past two weeks. I went to the CTN-Expo and had a great time catching up with old friends and meeting new friends. My wife and I went to Las Vegas and met up with family for the Thanksgiving holiday. And now I'm fighting a cold. Ugh.

Here are a few sketches I made a few weeks ago. I plan to post more new stuff soon!

In the character design class I took over the summer, one assignment was to create three librarian heads. I had sketched a bunch out, but of course only submitted the three the assignment asked for.

My wife, Rebecca, had suggested to me that I use the librarians I had designed and create full bodies for them in an environment. The characters and environment are all designed to look like it was a moment in a public library in the 1950's. This is the result:

Giraffes are some of my favorite animals to draw at the zoo. At the LA zoo, you're really close to them and in some areas you can even look at them eye to eye.

I had taken some old drawings in my sketchbook and reworked them to make characters.

Jack and Jill Layout

Last year I had taken a class through the Animation Guild called Composition for Animation and Film.
The class was taught by Will Weston, who is a full-time professor at Art Center of Pasadena.

Our assignment for the class was to create a layout for a boy and girl character (Jack and Jill) who discover a shipwreck in the middle of the desert.

I had created a layout that Will Weston liked, but he said I could make improvements.

I fully intended to make the changes, but never could find the time. When I finally had the time, I of course couldn't find all of the notes he had given me. Still I made improvements and added color and this is the latest version.
